How to combine PDFs for a job or school packet

A working order for cover letters, forms, and certificates: fix page order, merge the files, then compress if the packet is too large to send.

How to build one PDF from several application files

  1. Put each document in the right internal order

If a scan is upside down or a form has a blank page in the middle, open Reorder PDF Pages first. Merge follows the order of whole files, not pages inside them.

  2. Add files in the order the recipient asked for

Open Merge PDF and drop between 2 and 50 unlocked PDFs. The first file you add becomes the first pages of the packet.

  3. Merge, then open the result

Download the combined PDF and count the pages. Merging does not unlock a password-protected file; the tool will refuse it.

  4. Compress only if you need a smaller attachment

If email or a portal rejects the packet, run Compress PDF on the merged file. Keep the uncompressed merge until you have checked the compressed copy.

A packet is an order problem, then a file problem

Cover letters, application forms, and certificates often arrive as separate downloads. Recipients usually want one PDF in a stated sequence. Reorder PDF Pages is for the inside of one file. Merge PDF is for joining those files in the list order you choose.

Add the files again if you dropped them in the wrong sequence. The merge tool does not include a thumbnail sorter for the whole packet. Closing the tab before you download discards the merged copy; we do not keep a draft.

After you have one PDF

Open it and check every section the recipient named. If the packet is too large to attach, compress the merged file rather than sending a ZIP of originals unless they asked for that. If they need images instead of a multi-page PDF, convert the pages you need with PDF to JPG.

How to combine PDFs for a job or school packet FAQ

Should I merge first or compress first?

Fix page order, then merge, then compress the packet if it is still large. Compressing each file first is extra work and can rasterize pages before you have checked the combined order.

How many PDFs can I join for one packet?

Merge accepts up to 50 PDFs, 50 MB per file, 200 MB total, and 1000 pages after merge. That is enough for a typical application. A hundred-page scan may need to be split first.

Can I drop a Word file straight into Merge PDF?

No. Convert the .docx file with Word to PDF first, then add that PDF to the merge. Merge only accepts PDF files.
