How PDF tools can run without uploading your file

What “processed in your browser” means on ManageMyPDF: the file stays on your device, what we cannot recover, and the size limits that still apply.

How to process a PDF without sending it to a server

  1. Open the tool you need

Choose merge, compress, convert, or reorder. Each page is a working tool, not a form that sends the document to us.

  2. Pick the file on this device

Use the file box to choose a PDF, image, or .docx file from your computer, Files, or Photos. The browser reads those bytes locally.

  3. Wait for the tab to finish

Progress stays in this page. A large file can make the tab busy because the work uses this device’s memory, not a ManageMyPDF upload queue.

  4. Download before you close the tab

The result is a file created in the browser. Closing the tab discards it. We cannot email you a copy later.

What “in your browser” actually does

When you choose a file, the page reads it with the browser’s file API. Open-source libraries then merge, compress, convert, or reorder that data in memory. The download you get is a new blob created in the same tab. That is why the tools work offline after the page has loaded, and why we cannot offer a “resend my file” button.

This is different from a typical converter that POSTs the document to a cloud job. Local processing is slower on a 40-page scan, and it will fail on a password-protected PDF until you unlock it. Those are the trade-offs of keeping the bytes on the device.

What we still cannot promise

Each file can be up to 50 MB. A merge or image batch can total 200 MB. A single PDF can have up to 500 pages; a merged document can have up to 1000 pages. The tools do not OCR scanned text, do not remove passwords, and do not store drafts.

Display ads help pay for the domain and hosting. They are labeled as advertisements and are not required to finish a download. Cookie use for ads is explained in the Privacy Policy. The PDF you open is still not uploaded to us.

How PDF tools can run without uploading your file FAQ

If the file never leaves my device, what can ManageMyPDF see?

We do not receive the PDF, photo, or Word document you open. We also cannot open it for you if something goes wrong. Site hosting still sees ordinary request data such as the page URL, as described in the Privacy Policy. Ads, when shown, are served by Google and may use cookies.

Why is there still a file-size limit if nothing is uploaded?

The limit is this browser’s memory, not a server quota. The tools refuse a file over 50 MB per file and a batch over 200 MB total so the tab is less likely to freeze. A phone will struggle sooner than a desktop.

Can you unlock or recover a file I already processed?

No. There is no copy on our side. Unlock a password-protected PDF in another app first. If you close the tab before downloading, that result is gone.

More write-ups are in the PDF guides.
